Well, appearance is not irrelevant: It can be depressing to see one's face looking like that first thing in the morning and to have people asking if you have something contagious. I remember feeling awful as a child with eczema and being asked about this horrible rash, which also itched and hurt. I outgrew eczema only to deal with rosacea now. My dermatologist observed that it tends to hit people whose skin has been clear and really attractive--another jest of God....
