I liken the price of Zicam to milk. The absolute price of a quart is cheaper than a gallon, but the price per ounce is higher. I posted a comparison of the cost per dose of Zicam to several popular name-brand cold remedies a few months ago on Yahoo. Zicam had a lower cost per dose than Tylenol Cold, Sudafed, Contac, and Theraflu, to name a few. I guess they could sell a smaller bottle for less if the perception persists that Zicam is expensive, but I don't think the price will be an issue if the clinical studies come back favorable. They might even be able to raise the price if the demand is high enough.

I don't know if the subjects were asked to report side effects (such as stinging) during the clinical studies. GumTech conducted a focus group a few months ago, and they probably looked into this issue then.
