Even with all the pundit's predicting gloom and doom, DELL keeps plugging away... and will prove all naysayers wrong. Fez __________________________DELL TO OFFER EASY-TO-USE, HIGH-SPEED HOME NETWORKING PACKAGE Dell Home Network Solution Designed for Ease of Use and Reliability ROUND ROCK, Texas, Oct. 19, 1999 -- Dell Computer Corporation (Nasdaq: DELL), the world's leading direct computer systems company, expanded its Dell4me(sm) consumer product lineup day with a high-speed home network package designed for ease-of-use and reliability. "As families and home business customers add second and third PCs they understand the benefits of connecting their computers to share files, Internet access and accessories," said Stephan Godevais, vice president and general manager for Dell© home and small business products. "Until now, it has been easier for some to network to the world through the Internet than network their own home. By working directly with consumers as the single source for their technology needs we are providing integrated systems. There is no need for the piece meal solutions of the past." The new Dell home network package is the industry's first offering using the new 3Com© HomeConnect? Home Network Phoneline solution. Prices for Dell's home network package begin at $69 when purchased with a Dell Dimension© desktop PC, including a factory-installed 3Com HomeConnect 10 Mbps Phoneline network interface card (NIC). Additional phone line NICs for existing desktops are available for $69. The Dell home network package also includes Microsoft© HomeClick? Network software and multi-player games that can be played over the network, including: Sports Car GT, Star Trek: Star Fleet Command, Descent III, and Roger Wilco? voice chat intercom software. Based on the forthcoming Home Phoneline Network standard (HPNA 2.0), the 3Com network adapter uses a customer's existing telephone line to transfer data at up to 10 Mbps per second without interrupting regular telephone service. This speed is up to ten times faster than previous phone networking products. Dell's home network offering builds on the simplicity of 3Com's solution by including easy-to-read documentation, a set-up placemat and an interactive CD with video that walks customers through the set-up process. In addition, Dell has used more than 100 systems to train sales and support personnel to answer customer questions and provide efficient service.
