DJ BTI Telecom To Use Lucent Tech, Copper Mountain Pdts

RALEIGH, N.C. (Dow Jones)--BTI Telecom Corp. agreed to use Lucent Technologies Inc. (LU) and Copper Mountain Networks Inc. (CMTN) products to expand its digital subscriber line service to 50 tier II and tier III metro areas in the Southeast.

In a press release Tuesday, Lucent said BTI Telecom of North Carolina is acquiring 20 Lucent B-STDX 9000 Multiservice Wide Area Network switches, which will be used as the backbone of the service provider's network.

BTI Telecom is installing its 10th Lucent 5ES Switch, which is scheduled to commence service in Tampa-area early next year.

Lucent is selling Copper Mountain equipment to BTI Telecom through its 1998 original equipment manufacturer agreement with Copper Mountain.

BTI Telecom plans to roll out ISDN and symmetric digital subscriber line services to small and medium-sized businesses as well as residential customers over the next year. The roll out will employ Copper Mountain's CopperEdge 200 DSL Concentrator.
