I disagree with your dismissal of the Spanish Civil War as a minor European skirmish between Left and Right. I said that only for the sake of the list (which is what the thread is concerned with). I don't dismiss the war itself. One can, it seems, understand much of the political history of the era by studying that war. It is a microcosm that helps define the macrocosm of European politics then and for decades thereafter. It's just a question of broad-stroke versus fine-stroke history. In a broad-stroke view of things, one must ignore such fascinating and important details.
