<In the salvage yard, was there a problem with leaking petroleum products getting to water? >

Oh yeah... that's a Big Time problem in the wrecking biz...not a good scene at all... especially at the older yards where they've been wrecking cars for 50 years or so... like this place... some real old jalopies in the back of the field... If you read "Part 3" I made mention of the infamous toilet which flushed "black water"... Basically the well was pumping a nice rich mixutre of Quaker State, Valvoline and tranny fluid... You sure didn't want to wash your hands in that stuff.... This place probably wasn't much worse than a lot of the other yards "out there" despite new environmental regulations. Most yards have been around a lot longer than the regulations. My guess is that if you put oil rigs over all of the yards in North America... well, maybe the OPEC dudes would be right out of business...
