Zach, Hi. I thought you'd been drafted or something. <g>

The CPI will lag the PPI is a period like this because there is no pricing power to the consumer. So, for example, pc boxmakers may have suffered huge inflation in component prices, but the consumer still won't buy their boxes unless they are dirt cheap or free. They will try to raise prices, fail, and then eat even more of their meager cash flow to try to staunch the bleeding.

I hate Dell and love the fact that the made to order model fell on its face this quarter. I own puts now and will buy more if the herd continues to buy it because it once pretended to be a great co. Gateway will be a terrific put stock sometime next year, but, right now, their accounting is so shaky that they seem to make every sow's ear look like a silk purse. Once the accountants are arrested <g>, the stock price will normalize at about 1/3 of its current level. I have no opinion on Apple. I think the Taiwan quake may be good for them, so I am not buying puts.

Among the dopers, I like most of the cos. but hate most of the prices. Almost certainly we will get a national prescription plan next year. Not all of the voters who are dying from its lack will be gone before Al and Dubbyou slug it out next Nov. That is bad for profit margins, though it is great for volume. But I wouldn't buy until the smoke clears on that. When it does, I'd look at Abbott and Merck. I am even warming up to American Home a bit after ravaging them with puts earlier this year. <g>
