A few comments on G* pricing:

(1) I have the impression that G* doesn't expect it's users to "roam" internationally with their G* phone. If it felt that was important, it should have provided a "tetra" mode phone switchable between AMPS/GSM/CDMA/G*. G* regional calls seem to be somewhat cheaper than Irid (typ. 1.30-1.5 for G* vs 1.70-1.80 for Irid).

(2) I expect (considering G*'s SPs) that an important advantage for G* vs Irid will be broad availability of roaming on terrestrial networks at cellular-like rates. According to Irid's coverage maps, it doesn't offer terrestrial roaming in many regions where that would be advantageous.

(3) I'd expect the monthly service fees to include some minutes of air time (e.g. 100$/month service fee, first sixty minutes free)

Some companies price their products high and then give deep discounts to attract customers. That could be the strategy here.

"70 % discount and waive the activation fee if you sign up today".
