Actually, the Quick Launch bar, including the Save Desktop feature, were around long before Win98 came out. As I remember, they both first appeared with the release of IE 4's Desktop Update patch. (I think it was called the SP01 release, and included the first Active Desktop)

That it detaches (and can be moved around the taskbar, for that matter) is somewhere in the help system, since I'm sure that's how I found out about it. Again, it is long ago, so I can't be sure.<g>

I don't know if this is what you've been looking for ...

In Windows Help look for 'Quick Launch toolbar' and in the right pane that appears, click 'Add a toolbar' and you'll find hints for re-location near the bottom of the resulting explanation.

Odd place for it?
