That is what a lot of consumer groups are fighting. Besides, if you don't like a bank that charges such fees, you can go to another bank.

For comparison, even in India, calls from payphones cost a buck or two. Assuming that the damn things work, that is.

Because the people who work in restaurants can be paid 1/2 the minimum wage.

Yeah, right. The typical electricity board engineer or clerk would have amassed wealth that is hundreds of times their known sources of income. And you say they are not getting richer! You give a good insight into why India is getting more and more corrupt with each passing year -- because the people find all sorts of "explanations" to keep it going.
