Donald:" box logic "

>As for using the term JUNK CARGO, that is term that most in the biz used including the exporters themselves. Those exporters realise that they are not shipping gold. Being in the biz for that long, I did not consider the effects of using that terms for those not familiar with the biz.

...perhaps you folks in the shipping biz call it, "junk". We folks in the recycling biz, don't. You heard that this time, right? (^_^)

Obviously you don't have much respect for recycling. The U.S. leads the world in recycling volume, technology, fwiw.

>I have mentioned in the past that a container of wastepaper has a f.o.b. value of around $500-1500, while a container of electronics on the inbound side can easily exceed $500,000, as an illustration of the divergence. So it would take a heck of alot of wastepaper to equal 1 import container of electronics. Of course we do not only import electronics, but even cheaper commodities like garments and toys are still in the 6 figures.

...you state the obvious, compare raw materials to finished goods, which borders on the ridiculous: "it would take a heck of alot of wastepaper to equal 1 import container of electronics" -- It would "take a heck of a lot of oil in boxes to equal 1 import container of electronics", too - but the dollar volume of oil dwarfs electronics; ie., "box logic at Long Beach" is naive - an interesting but ultimately local loading rather than a national perspective of Current Account balances.

The point is this, Don - when it comes to US:World ex/import trade balance = Current Account issues, there's somewhat more to it than counting boxes of SONY imports and JUNK exports in Long Beach ?
