Just who is this mysterious Mountain View company in Microsoft's GUN SIGHTS ?

And you are correct - Microsoft kept repeating over and over - INTEL PLATFORMS, INTEL PLATFORMS.

Perhaps Microsoft has now realized what the FOUNDATION is for all their success ?

At least they never mentioned ATHLON PLATFORMS !

If Intel reiterated that Merced/ITANIUM will ship in H2/2000 - but ON 12/31/2000, Intel's stock would INSTANTANEOUSLY drop $25 !

When Microsoft uses this pyrrhic ploy, every analyst applauds Microsoft's superb execution - only 1 1/2 years LATE !
