I don't get walmart actually. They are big enough to have solved these problems like Dell did.

The problem with the smaller ones like Ethan Allen (or even etoys) is they have a top slot - say, director logistics. The question is what kind of person to put in there. 9 times out of 10 that position is filled with an old-time logistics guy... warehouse procurer, person like that. So where does the technical leadership go? Certainly not working for this person, who knows nada. In a large enough firm they can set up an alternate technical direction staff... under a separate VP, so that the salaries can be differentiated etc. This really isn't rocket science and I have no idea why there are so many issues here - I also consider an e-tail implementation to be easier than a Sap implemetation fwiw.
