I'll have to get that book, not just becuase of the column format, but because I grew up in the Blue Ridge. How wonderful!

You are so sanguine about this needlepoint assignment. This is the kind of assignment that absolutely infuriated me when the kids were growing up. I HATED those projects where the artsy mom or the handyman dad build incredible working models-

Little snotty blonde boy, --"Here's my model of a conestoga wagon, which my dog pulled me to school in today".

Little prissy blonde girl-" This is my authentic Indian Princess dress that my mommy and I made from real deerskins. My daddy killed the deer and we tanned the hides over the weekend."

Westbrook boys- "This is my model of the Mayflower. It's made from a bar of soap, a toothpick and a kleenex."
