Sprint PCS sub base is growing......Sprint PCS added 720,000 subscribers in Q3

NEW YORK, Oct 20 (Reuters) - Sprint PCS Group (NYSE:PCS - news), the wireless unit of long distance phone company
Sprint Corp. (NYSE:FON - news), added 720,000 new customers in the third quarter, bringing its total subscriber base to nearly
4.7 million.

Sprint PCS' subscriber growth beat Wall Street expectations of 702,000, according to research firm First Call/Thomson Financial.

``Sprint PCS continues to outperform the industry, adding customers at an industry-leading pace, while maintaining healthy revenue per subscriber,' said Sprint
Chairman William Esrey.

Third-quarter average monthly revenue per subscriber remained flat at $54.

Sprint PCS posted a third-quarter operating cash flow loss of $397 million. Its net loss was $615 million, or $1.31 a share, compared with a loss of $176 million, or
$1.04. Revenues increased to $844 million from $320 million.

Capital expenditures totaled $608 million for the quarter, reflecting the continued expansion of its nationwide network, which now covers more than 180 million
people nationally, including affiliates.

And why would that be? They reported 87% subscriber growth from comp 3Q? They lost more money in other areas.
