Brian Mulroney (former Canadian PM and I believe on the B of D for Barrick) was one of the lobbiests who convinced the Central Banks to restrict sales (which caused the POG to shoot up). I don't see why he would do this if it would hurt Barrick. Perhaps someone can explain this.

Proven and probable: 51.456 (12/31/98)
Mineralized material: 16.789 (12/31/98)

Remember they acquired Sutton in 1999, which adds at least 8 million ounces to above numbers.
