Newbridge Networks and Jetstream Communications Collaborate to Accelerate Deployment of Voice over DSL

Leading Newbridge ATM, DSL and T1 Access Technology Fully Integrates with Jetstream Voice-over-DSL Solution to Deploy
Carrier Class Integrated Broadband Services

KANATA, Ontario and LOS GATOS, California, October 20, 1999 ? Newbridge Networks (NYSE: NN; TSE: NNC) and Jetstream
Communications today announced the companies will co-market voice-over-digital subscriber line (VoDSL) broadband access
solutions for the delivery of integrated voice and high speed data services. The partnership combines Newbridge?s proven
asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) and DSL networking technology with Jetstream?s breakthrough VoDSL technology to create
a powerful new solution for carriers to deploy integrated voice and data services.

The VoDSL solution from Newbridge and Jetstream is unique. The industry leading MainStreetXpress 36170 Multiservices
Switch, the largest selling ATM switch in the industry, and the Newbridge? 350 Integrated Versatile Services Node (IVSN)
directly interconnect with Jetstream integrated access devices (IADs) via integral T1 or DSL interface cards. This
enables service providers to economically deliver broadband-based data and voice services to customers that are beyond
DSL range using standard and widely available T1 access lines. Installed in the networks of more than 350 service
providers worldwide, the 36170 Multiservices Switch provides an expansive industry wide installed base from which VoDSL
applications can be deployed.

?Combining both DSL and T1 access technology on a single platform reduces capital expenditure and total cost of
ownership,? said Kevin Rankin, assistant vice president, Broadband Copper Networks, Newbridge Networks. ?Our dynamic
bandwidth allocation solution allows voice and data to flow freely over T1 access lines and is distance independent and
fully standards based.

?We are offering an end-to-end, voice-over-DSL solution that will expand voice and data service delivery to the
under-served small business market. Newbridge was able to develop this offering because of our confidence in Jetstream?s
strong track record, underscored by its best-of-breed voice gateway. Working with Jetstream will enable us to accelerate
the deployment of VoDSL by our carrier customers in this rapidly expanding market.?

?Newbridge brings a strong DSL platform to the table, and we are very enthusiastic about our partnership to market these
innovative broadband solutions to carriers,? said S. Sundi Sundaresh, president and chief executive officer, Jetstream.
?Newbridge's wide area networking expertise is a valuable addition to our VoDSL solution. We expect it to be very
compelling to carriers who want to offer competitive voice and data services to smaller subscribers.?

Combining the MainStreetXpress 36170 Multiservices Switch or the Newbridge 350 IVSN with Jetstream?s CPX-1000 voice
gateway provides a cost-effective means for both incumbent local exchange carriers (ILECs) and competitive local
exchange carriers (CLECs) to deliver VoDSL services to the burgeoning small business telecommunications market.

The Jetstream VoDSL broadband access solution enables carriers to deliver multiline local telephone service and high
speed data over packet-based DSL access networks. It consists of three components. The first, the CPX-1000, is a
large-scale voice gateway that resides in a carrier's regional switching center and serves as a bridge between a Class 5
voice switch and a DSL access network. The second component is a family of integrated access devices (IADs) provided by
Jetstream and its partner companies. IADs connect to a DSL or T1 line at subscriber premises and deliver up to 16
telephone lines and continuous high speed Internet or remote local area network (LAN) access. The last component,
Jet-EMS, is a carrier class element management system enabling rapid deployment of large-scale VoDSL networks.

Jetstream Communications Inc. is the leading provider of voice-over-DSL (VoDSL) equipment to incumbent and competitive
local exchange carriers. The company's VoDSL broadband access solution is rapidly becoming the standard for integrated
voice and data service delivery to the small business and high end residential communications markets. Based in Los
Gatos, California, Jetstream is a privately held, venture-backed company led by a seasoned management team consisting of
veterans from both the telecommunications and data communications industries. Jetstream was recently recognized as one
of 13 "Startups to Watch" by Telecommunications magazine. Companies were selected to receive this honor based on their
talented management teams, impressive financial backing and superior technology.

Newbridge Networks designs, manufactures, markets and services wide area networking solutions for Internet service
providers; local, long-distance, and wireless communications companies; cable television carriers; and enterprise
customers in more than 100 countries. The Company leverages its relationship with a growing family of Newbridge
