Hi Carl,

Not exactly, the 840 is using two separate and independent channels and would exibit a problem with a 6 RIMM configuration but not with four that is being packaged with the 840.

The 820 on the otherhand is really using a bridge to interface with DIMMS on one channel. It is not surprising that they are having the same validation issues with regard to the bridging interface or MTH- the abreviation for this bridge.

It is really not such a big deal in the real world since a 2+2 configuration does not permit the use of both DIMMS and RIMMS at the same time. One has to make a choice whether to go one way or the other. Eventually the 820 and 840 will be synonymous with RAMBUS and 2+2 is only a transitional stop gap.

I guess other people will have differing opinions as to the value of 2+2 configurations but in the long run only Rambus makes sense to me anyway.
