SAN ANTONIO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 1, 1999--American TeleSource International Inc. "ATSI" AMTI has established a new Research Assistantship with the College of Business at the University of Texas at San Antonio.

It is designed to help business students learn about the telecommunications industry from the vantagepoint of real world situations and challenges. Research will focus on telecommunications opportunities emerging in the Latin American market, and will be facilitated through the Institute for Studies in Business, the research component of the UTSA College of Business.

"We welcome this opportunity to partner with the UTSA College of Business," commented Arthur L. Smith, Chairman of ATSI. "We are impressed with their track record of building a comprehensive international business program. UTSA's emphasis on establishing academic programs of excellence has lead to numerous partnerships around the world. They were extremely responsive to our request to establish ATSI as a 'living laboratory' environment for UTSA business students. Chuck Bagby, Senior Vice President, Operations, Engineering and Technical Services for ATSI and a 1987 M.B.A. graduate from UTSA, played a pivotal role in bringing the two organizations together."

In response to globalization, technology and other forces reshaping the business landscape, the UTSA College of Business continues to introduce new and innovative programs. Eight new programs have been added in the last two years alone. The college now offers 20 graduate program options and an additional 14 at the undergraduate level.

Dr. James F. Gaertner, Dean of the UTSA College of Business, commented, "Timely partnerships like these enrich our college in several important ways. They represent tremendous learning opportunities for our students, and they enable the college to sharpen the focus and relevance of our programs."
