Cyberstar? What's that?

Seriously, Cyberstar is slowly dwindling away. Dr. Maehl, who headed Cyberstar at the beginning is long gone and now working for Hughes. There is no plan that I am aware of. There was a weak presentation on 2 way internet at the September meeting under the Cyberstar banner(the description of the service astonishingly similar to that of VSAT), but the commitment there seemed weak. As to data package delivery, anyone can do that--you don't need the Cyberstar envelope around that. Loral Orion will fold in Cyberstar and it will disappear. The Ka-band GEOs just can't be financed now and the future is unclear. All in all, LOR doesn't need a Cyberstar banner---I'll be glad when the development costs stop damaging the LOR financials.

Regarding Cyberstar:

Recently attempted to set up a customer with them. This customer had data delivery needs ideally suited for sat delivery-- geographic diversity, one-to-many distribution, high bandwidth, etc. Couldn't get a peep out of them. I don't think they are even trying to sell the product anymore-if there is a product. This would have been a rather large contract. Customer ended up going with a terrestrial delivery system.
