Surfing around some Italian sites, I stumbled upon this site

www2.gsmbox.com

it's part of a collection of photos of G*, Irid and other wireless gear, apparently from 3/99 CEBIT exhition. It's interesting to compare the above shot of a G* Q phone with Mot's Irid phone:

www2.gsmbox.com

Also found the following news flash, that's not so good (as translated from Italian by AltaVista):

23 thursdays september 1999

Globalstar has inaugurated the station of Avezzano yesterday and, after the free way of
the Authority, it will become operating from 1 February of the 2000. While after the
agreements with Omnitel one set offs to tighten an understanding with Wind.

Why 1Feb2000 and who or what is "Wind"???

I wonder if Geoff was given a "clunker" G* handset.

If so, it should have been (literally) thrown in the trash (or, used for batting practice).

But maybe this booth only had one handset available (?)

Jon.
