And .86 was the BD Zacks earnings estimate as provided by Yahoo. So just maybe we'll be okay for a while - as long as we don't see analysts complaining that the numbers were manipulated (which is what BD apparently did last year).

The release reads well in my view and further shorting would seem very risky. Covering seems more likely, though the uncertainty of the composition (cash, stock or both)of the upcoming February payment may let the shorters cover more easily than they otherwise might.
