Based upon recent earnings releases its evident that the internet portion of the market is outperforming while the hardware portion is underperforming.

Internet:
sunw, athm, aol etc showing good results.

Hardware:
dell, ibm, compaq etc showing weak results on reduced margins for their PCs while server sales are still strong. Consumer based margin pressure is real. I can now buy a fast HP PC on www.onsale.com for slightly more than $400.

Telecom:
Under margin pressure with QWST, T, MCI all beating each the hell out of each other. Competition will heat up even more as the baby bells get into long distance.

One would think that reduced PC prices and reduced prices for longhaul circuits should help the internets as it free's additional $$'s for broadband internet services. Recent earnings releases should provide a boost to ATHM when capital starts looking for the best return on investment.
