Gap Executive Robert Fisher Decides to Resign Joband Take Personal Leave From Company

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 28, 1999-- Gap Inc. (GPS) announced today that Robert Fisher has decided to resign his position as president, Gap division, and corporate executive vice president, effective Nov. 15, and take a personal leave from the company. He will retain his seat on the company's board of directors.

"Bob has made many contributions to our company's growth over the past 19 years," said company President and CEO Millard Drexler. "He's led the Gap brand through an important period of growth. I respect his decision to take some time off and look forward to his ongoing contributions as a board member." The Gap division will report to Mr. Drexler.

"Gap is a great company with great people," Mr. Fisher said. "Helping this company grow has been a big part of my life. Now I feel it's time to take a personal leave."

Mr. Fisher, 44, has held numerous senior management positions since joining Gap Inc. in 1980 as a store manager after receiving his MBA from Stanford University. In 1985, he was named executive vice president, merchandising, for Banana Republic, then an 11-store division of Gap Inc. He became Banana Republic's president in 1989 and was elected to Gap Inc.'s board of directors in 1990. An executive vice president of the company since 1992, he served as chief operating officer from 1992-93 and 1995-97, and chief financial officer from 1993-95. He was named head of the Gap division in 1997.
