AT&T Wireless affiliate TeleCorp files $143 mln IPO
WASHINGTON, Oct 20 (Reuters) - TeleCorp PCS Inc., the largest AT&T Wireless (NYSE:T - news) affiliate in the United States, has filed to raise as much as $143.75 million in an initial public offering (IPO).

The company, based in Arlington, Va., has licenses that cover about 16.5 million people and serves the northeast and south-central United States as well as Puerto Rico.

The company said it planned to use the proceeds from the IPO for general corporate purposes, including capital spending as it expanded its personal communications services network; sales and marketing efforts and working capital.

TeleCorp did not disclose how many shares it planned to sell or the projected price range of the IPO in its preliminary filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Typically, companies file subsequent documents with the SEC detailing that information.

The $143.75 million figure cited in the filing was merely a basis for calculating the SEC registration fee, the company said. It has applied to list its shares on Nasdaq under the symbol ''TLCP.''

The underwriters for the public offering include Salomon Smith Barney, Lehman Brothers, Deutsche Banc Alex. Brown and Merrill Lynch & Co.
