I presented the house analogy because that still accounts for the largest section of the NAV for the average US family. I shudder to think what would happen if people could trade their houses for a flat fee of $25.

I recently saw a news clip in Time magazine, which studied the average annual returns of a group of investors before and after the growth of low cost on line trading. There was a clear negative correlation between the number of trades and the average annual return.
