Paul, PC RAS is good enough. I don't need to pop CPU's into my running box nor care that I need an occasional reboot. Just look at EBAY - they shutdown their systems for a few hours a week at least to do maintenance - that 2-4% downtime right there. Let's not count the recent 24 hour hits they've had due to a reported combination of hardware/software issues.

I say that the best investment a company can make is building an application(s) that are distributed. This means I can plug in a node and my application scales (maybe not linearly but it does scale), and I have some more fault tolerance. If one node goes down my business still runs because I have N other nodes "taking care of business".

Therefore, give me a room full of cheaper yet just as reliable X86 iron and make your app distributed. Best RAS at the best price IMHO.

Cheers
James
