Jim,
Re your, "Where are the experts? ArrowHd, Jules, et al.?"

I didn't think you wanted to hear from me again, but I am here. Vindication is indeed sweet, although I don't like to "pour salt on opened wounds".

Unfortunately, for IBM longs, I continue to view IBM's shortfall in hardware sales as not just a short term event, or Y2K related, as Gerstner has implied. Rather, the disappointment in AS/400 and S/390 Mainframe revenues, I believe, will go on for some time to come and Intel will be the benefactor. Note, unlike IBM, Intel was looking forward to a stronger Q4, just last week. With Merced beginning to ship next year, and the IBM's PC Div. in disarray, it does not bode well for IBM's "bread and butter" hardware" sales going forward. Granted, IBM has done an excellent job in positioning themselves for the expansion of E- commerce, however, I recommend you go back to my posts of March and April of 1998 and reread my warnings at that time.
Sometimes, I give "The Street" too much credit and it takes longer than I anticipate for things to play out. But as I have posted here many times, timing has never been my strong suit. I always seem to be six to eighteen months too early.
Regards,
Jules
