I've argued in favor of a flat tax here before. Exempt the first 25-30k of income and charge a flat rate thereafter. Fair and progressive at the same time. Of course liberals will always want to redistribute the higher incomes as a means of penalizing successful people.

Just out of curiosity, why do you think that a tax rate appropriate for someone making $30,000 a year is appropriate for Bill Gates. And is it just a coincidence that the wealthiest members of society will benefit most - those people that need a benefit least? Wouldn't it increase the gop between rich and poor? Or am I just naive? Please edify me.
