Re: ANTC / AT&T / MOT-GIC Connections? Thread, I listened to the Q3 CC for Antec(sym:ANTC) much closer and took notes the second time around. Before I post my notes/comments on the CC, I picked up something that kind of ties into my previous post(linked to this one) regarding the AT&T Leo Hindery bungle. This time in the CC I noticed HEAVY emphasis by ANTC's CEO regarding their dis-interest in the cable modem business. As a matter of fact, he went so far as to tell one analyst to not even bring in any revenue forecast stream on this product. BTW, and I hope I got this all correct...Antec is selling the old LanCity modem which was purchased by Nortel when Nortel bought Bay Networks. Then NT sold LanCity to Arris Interactive where it's now sold as a Cornerstone product. That's the reason NT has a much bigger stake in Arris Interactive than ANTC now does. NT got equity when they turned over LanCity to Arris Interactive. I'm speculating that maybe this is the bone AT&T may have to throw Motorola's way in concession to the Leo Hindery goof. I know Motorola makes the cyber surfer modem (I even had one for awhile) and I believe Motorola's purchase of General Instruments recently, may add fuel to the fire that indeed, Leo Hindery did goof and place a billion $$ order without Armstrong's approval. Maybe MOT purchased GIC for added manufacturing capacity to service AT&T? Or to be able to supply AT&T with set-top boxes? One final note, I was never a fan of ANTC getting into the cable modem reseller business. It now (but a year ago it did make sense) makes little sense. Once cable modems were/are all DOCSIS certified, then it rapidly becomes a commodity product. So even if MOT gets this part of the business from AT&T, IMHO it won't bring tears to Antec's eyes. Anyway, all just pure speculation that seems to tie together. I guess if Motorola announces some large AT&T contract, then my speculation would have been accurate. MikeM(From Florida)
