I meant you can get rotten wood to burn but I'd do it outdoors if the law allows. Many places don't allow open burning. Don't burn it in your fireplace as it will stink up your house.

Firewood sounds high in your area. It runs around $80-$100 per cord split, delivered and stacked here. Most of it is from tree services that get it after storms. You want to make sure it's split. Burns much easier. Start saving small sticks for kindling. I've found that cardboard works better than paper as a starter and a little charcoal lighter fluid really helps. Don't squirt it on after the fire is lit though.

A diesel generator would be a big sucker.
