I guess I cannot shut up....

I have always found that IBM was overpriced, with so much accounting gimmickry hiding their slow hardware sales..

If it was not all that growing service revenue, they would have been considered toast years ago....

Again,

Positives:

- DB2/ UDB: Great database, great product
- Service Revenue: Great
- Components like DD, chips and foundries etc ...: Good

Negatives:

- Dying/Flat UNIX Business: SUN chewing them up
- Declining/Flat Mainframe/Mini Revenues
- PC Business: A disaster, Lost 1 B $ in 1998, on track to lose 600 M or more this year: gateway & especially Dell Killing them. A funny sidequote here, IBM's component business, like the excellent DeskStar DD, are being sold to dell, and thereby "arming their competitors"

Hilarious

IBM is a stodgy investment, an overpriced monster, being taken down by nimbler, more killer predators.

They will come back, but there are better lee-integrated investments around

take care
Jean
