Under this partnership, Riverbed and Aether will work together to develop new levels of secure handheld wireless technology, services and solutions to meet the growing wireless demands of the mobile business community.
Riverbed's Wireless Reach Speeds Mobile Business
Through the agreement's technology cross-licensing, Riverbed will use Aether's Aether Intelligent Messaging (AIM) package of wireless messaging software and software development tools to extend wireless support to their ScoutWare family of products. Riverbed's wireless capability will be integrated into their ScoutSync server, ScoutIT and ScoutWeb products to extend enterprise connectivity, mobile solution management and web access via wireless connectivity to the Palm OS, Windows CE and other information appliance environments including the new generation of smart phones.

Additionally, ScoutSync and ScoutWeb servers will be hosted at Aether's turnkey Enterprise Data Wireless Centers to provide Riverbed customers, including VARs and solutions integrator partners, with the ability to synchronize and manage mobile applications and information through the Bell South Wireless Data networking system as well as all other standard wireless networks. The agreement will also enable Riverbed's customers to leverage Aether's professional services group as preferred integrators, capitalizing on their extensive wireless expertise.
Aether's Time-to-Market Solutions Focus Just Got Faster
Aether Systems, which offers AIM wirelessware for the rapid development of wireless solutions and their integration with the enterprise, will provide Riverbed's ScoutSync server with the ability for real-time access to back-end applications and data from ERP, legacy and the Internet/Intranet.
In addition, Aether will extend AIM with Riverbed's ScoutIT management software to enable centralized management of remote mobile devices. ScoutIT enables remote device identification, configuration, back-up and restore, activity tracking and application deployment from a single location, regardless of the device operating system or location. The inclusion of ScoutIT ensures Aether customers the very highest levels of support as well as the very latest versions of applications, automatically.

More Options for Customers
The combined enterprise solutions will operate across a broad array of wireless technologies, standards, suppliers and devices. This includes wireless connections to mobile computing products such as Palm Computing platform-based products, Windows CE devices, laptops, two-way wireless pagers and WAP-enabled smart phones. For example, with virtually any handheld device, field sales or inventory workers will be able to establish a wireless connection into a corporate server, and securely send and retrieve information while away from the office. This open approach to implementing wireless solutions protects customers against technology obsolescence and ensures that Aether and Riverbed's solutions will evolve and scale with the customer as requirements change.
Availability
The complete integration of Aether's AIM software development and transport technology into the Riverbed ScoutWare products is expected to be complete by the second half of 2000. ScoutSync wireless synchronization through Aether's Enterprise Data Wireless Center will be available by the end of this year.
