Shawn,
Bear market panics aren't that selective...
Nearly everything will get sucked down. The fact that AMD is up means people are still trying to be selective. No bottom yet..

RE:"AMD currently sells almost no products that go into corporate computers, so how can
AMD be affected by IBM's Y2K gloom news?"...

Better than a kick in the arse.

How would that be a lame excuse if is is right???

AMD currently sells almost no products that go into corporate computers, so how can AMD be affected by IBM's Y2K gloom news?

But AMD's staking their future on taking away that market from Intel. That's the market that buys high ASP processors, not the retail consumer market. If everyone in that market is going to wait for Y2K to clear up before buying those machines then what does that do to AMD's much-hyped slim current lead over Intel, hmmm? It gives Intel enough time to wind up the knockout punch to send AMD out of the ring and into the bleachers.

The only advantage AMD has over Intel is a temporary timing one, and if everyone's willing to wait a quarter or two then that advantage is worse then worthless because now they'll have inventory that'll be obsolete before anyone wants it. I predict that in the next loss report Sanders will blame Y2K for lower-than-expected Athlon demand.
