Gold is used in many high tech applications as a anti-oxidation agent for Ni (Nickel). For such application as wire bonding and contact resistance. Don't you get those gold plated connectors for your monster cable?? <GG>

BGR, well, there is a fundamental difference between running the printing presses and mining gold. in any case, lately the dollar's appeal seems to be waning rather dramatically. why, even the Indonesian Rupiah and the Mexican Peso have risen sharply against it of late, not to mention the currencies of the industrialized countries. at the same time, the gold short selling game seems to be in it's death throes. yes, the world has tolerated the U.S. current account deficit for a long time and has sent it's excess savings to finance it. but it is an extremely shortsighted attitude to assume that that's going to continue indefinitely. especially now that both Asian and European economies are clearly recovering, the demand for capital in these regions is on the rise, which makes the U.S. current account an ever more questionable state of affairs. this is also one of the factors driving up U.S. interest rates...a higher price is being exacted for Americas propensity to consume itself silly on credit, credit and more credit.
