>>Gruntal appears to be the most knowledgeable broker following LSI. They
consistently raise their price targets on LSI, and LSI has yet to fail. They
reiterated LSI with a strong buy today, and have a target of $80. I believe the
past will hold true, and Gruntal will be correct again within the near future. Would
not be surprised to see them raise target to $90+.<<

J,

That's more like it. This business of setting a $60 price target on a semiconductor stock when it is trading in the high 40's/low 50's just doesn't cut it....

I would respectfully disagree. Mona Euriba of Gruntal is a competent analyst, but for the past two years, the star of semiconductor analysts has been Mark Edelstone of MSDW. He has recently been a resolute bull on LSI, and reentered his buy recommendation on LSI when it was at 22. He had quit his buy recommendation on the stock in October '97, when the stock dropped to 24, so he has made his clients money.

By contrast, Ms. Euriba has had a long time buy on LSI even when it was selling at ten, so I give her credit for sticking out the tough times. She is a very determined and hard working writer and researcher rather than a media star

An interesting side note that occurred yesterday at the cc, was when Dan Niles of BBRS asked Doug Norby the CFO a rather detailed question concerning the financial statements. Wilf flat out told the Dan to "Take it Offline.", which was quite appropriate since its not the kind of question one should ask at a CC. It is not the first time that Niles has earned Wilf's chagrin at a CC. Niles likes to fashion himself as the intrepid all American investigative reporter, and takes great joy in pissing people like Wilf off.

Finally, notably absent from yesterday's soiree was da lovely und vivacious Erika Klauer.

I thought Gruntal reiterated a market outperform, not a strong buy. They were a strong buy a year ago, when things were really bad, but the downgrade was quiet (don't even remember). So quiet, this is the second post on this thread I've seen which says they have a strong buy out. By the way, I can't believe the price action today. That was the strongest conference call for LSI I've ever heard (been listening for two years, so that's not saying so much, but still). It was really a dream call.
