>>I finally put the finishing touches on my home-built computer. It's pretty radical....With my rig running at 450Mhz, it took about 20 hours to process only one data packet from SETI. At 600Mhz, it took only (!) 10 hours.<<

Wow! Macs really are faster than PC's! I too run SETI at home and my 233Mhz version-B Bondi Blue iMac completes a SETI cycle in just over 15 hours.

I also built my own PC this past summer for work. An Abit BX6 motherboard serves inside without fail. It is running a 333 Celery CPU (hey-it was cheap!) but I can upgrade to a 500MhZ PIII when I feel the need (so far haven't needed it). I am running the motherboard at 66Mhz but am afraid to overclock it as I fear my PCI cards won't work right. I put a 7200rpm Maxtor 20 Gig drive in it and have no need for any Iomega products- as I also have an ethernet card installed. Files fly in and out to other computers on the network faster than Clinton through a Sorority House.

I have burned some CD's from it, as I also have a SCSI card inside the PC. Works great! And backing up 650MB of data to an $0.85 media is just too comical for words. CD-RW is cheap! No need for expensive Iomega products.

OK, you got me interested.

What have you got on overclocking an AMD K6-2 400Mz, on a FIC VA-503+ Motherboard, running a 100Mhz Front Side Bus with a 64Mb PC100 DRAM chip, with an ATI Xpert@Play AGP Video Card?

(another home-built)

Always interested in more speed!

I'm currently overclocking it to 600Mhz. >>

Very cool!!!

I am running a pentium at 800Mhz. the CPU is refrigerated (-15C). I had some help from some of my ME's! The biggest limiter I had was noise on the DC-DC convertor feeding the chip. I measured 200mv of noise on the 2.5V output. I swapped out the convertor for a Vicor power brick, with only 2mv of noise. This brick costs more than the entire motherboard! This got me 100Mhz. You may want to try this!

I want to push it to 1Ghz. This is going to be tough...
