Poppycock. Where were you before the sell off?

Your an opportunist trying to pile it on. I heard the same drivel for 8 years.

It means its a good time to own IBM.

Ravi, I think the dot com story is one where a lot of players are winning and IBM does have a significant presence as does Sun. Mainframe MIP growth as measured by installed systems world-wide has increased exponentially over the last few years and much of it is Internet or E@commerce driven. Mainframe acceptance has never been better but to protect the platform competitiveness there has been enormous price attrition. Ten years ago the price per MIP was 100K and today it is a tiny fraction of that. Add to this pricing challenge the Y2K stall and we have a tough period. The latest figures I have seen state that over 70% of corporate data flows through IBM software at some point. It may start out on a Dell PC into a Sun server at some gateway and into an IBM mainframe at a corporate data center, then back out to an AS/400 to a CPQ workstation somewhere else. Post Y2K there will be plenty of growth for a lot of companies.
