SPECTRUM Selected by United States Marine Corps' Camp Lejeune
Solution Provides Largest U.S. Marine Training Base With Enterprise Network, Application and Service Level Management
DURHAM, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 22, 1999--SPECTRUM today announced that Camp Lejeune, the largest United States Marine Corps training base, has implemented SPECTRUM as its management platform of choice to keep data and communication services running at peak performance.

SPECTRUM helped Camp Lejeune realize its goal of managing its growing, community-wide network from one central site, while providing port-level performance visibility of devices and applications. Since deploying SPECTRUM, Camp Lejeune has seen significant increases in efficiency, reducing its network management staff from 40 people to eight.

``SPECTRUM effectively manages our growing enterprise which supports our core Marine training operation and the connectivity needs of the entire base--from unit offices and schools to the fire department, utilities, and more,' said Terry Maxwell, network branch head for the information systems management division of the Marine Corp Base at Camp Lejeune. ``The visibility SPECTRUM provides into our IT infrastructure has dramatically improved our productivity and the ability to manage our IT budgets. SPECTRUM has also helped prevent us from jumping into hardware upgrades that may have been unwarranted.'

After careful review of many management products, Camp Lejeune selected SPECTRUM for its strength in multivendor management; expertise in viewing, managing and controlling the network from a single workstation; and its unique ability to support extensive network growth.

``SPECTRUM'S ability to scale to very large networks is the reason it is so widely deployed throughout the Department of Defense and other government networks,' said SPECTRUM's president, Michael Skubisz. ``In addition, SPECTRUM is the only DII COE, Level 6, multivendor enterprise management system capable of managing both voice and data infrastructures.'

Camp Lejeune has a 75-mile, multivendor ATM backbone network that connects 318 buildings and supports more then 12,000 users. The base is home to more than 150,000 people, including 47,000 marines and sailors. It is the largest amphibious training base in the country and is home of the 22nd, 24th, and 26th Marine Expeditionary Units.

In a recent Network World survey on network management, SPECTRUM was voted number one over products from Hewlett Packard, Tivoli and Computer Associates in four decision-making categories: Scalability, Integration, Management Capabilities and Overall Value. According to the survey, SPECTRUM leads in overall customer satisfaction and is the management software most would purchase again.

Information and pricing for SPECTRUM and related solutions are available by contacting SPECTRUM sales at 603-337-1588, as well as by contacting authorized SPECTRUM resellers worldwide. Additional detail on Camp Lejeune's SPECTRUM deployment can be found at spectrummgmt.com.
