As a scorecard, there were 5 analysts on the call, and at least 4 of them congratulated management for the quarter.

Previous quarter it was 3 and 2, respectively.

Add one to the previous numbers if you think chipinvestor.com should count.

So the analyst coverage appears to be improving.

BTW, I liked basically everything I heard on the cc.

I just hope that Brad's quote that if things continue, "2000 can be a very good year for Mattson Technology" will prove true, unlike his quote two years ago, when he said "1998 will be a great year for Mattson." I mention this because I think it's worth keeping in mind that external market conditions in this sector can change rapidly an unexpectedly.

OT, re. Fleckenstein, I find it interesting that he posts on the SI thread for GNET, without disclosing that he is a director of that particular registrant.

Anybody who wants to share their thoughts on this practice might find the following information useful:

Securities and Exchange Commission
Pacific Regional Office
Valerie Caproni, Regional Director
5670 Wilshire Boulevard, 11th Floor
Los Angeles, CA 90036-3648
(323) 965-3998
e-mail: losangeles@sec.gov

Here is his biography from the proxy:

William A. Fleckenstein, 45 years old, has been the President of
Fleckenstein Capital, Inc., a registered investment advisor, since 1996. Mr.
Fleckenstein also held that position from 1982, when he originally founded
Fleckenstein Capital, until 1990, when Fleckenstein Capital merged with Olympic
Capital Management, Inc., a registered investment adviser. Mr. Fleckenstein
served as a partner at Olympic Capital from 1990 until 1996, at which time Mr.
Fleckenstein reestablished Fleckenstein Capital. Mr. Fleckenstein also serves as
a director of Pan American Silver Corp. Mr. Fleckenstein has been a regular
commentator on the Company's StockSite since 1996. Mr. Fleckenstein graduated
from the University of Washington in 1976 with a B.A. in mathematics.

Here's something from a GNET filing before he joined the board:

The Company's existing product offerings include the following content
areas and technology applications:

<snip>
go2business: This content area provides users with insights regarding
the financial markets, publicly traded companies, and general financial and
economic trends. Inside Scoop features the insights of prominent industry
analysts and writers, such as business author Jennifer James, Ph.D. Daily
Market Rap offers insights on the day's financial market activities by
William Fleckenstein, a professional money manager.
Stock Picks: Upstream
with Cousin Bob is the platform for the Company's investment professionals
to select the stocks that they believe can outperform the major market
averages over various investment horizons. go2business offers investment
tools such as stock quotes, graphs, historical data, personal portfolio
monitoring, business and financial news, company profiles and company
filings. The Company has sought to further enhance the attractiveness of
this feature by including a ubiquitous, configurable stock ticker.

Interestingly, neither Fleckenstein nor his capital management company appear to be registered with the NASD, according to www.nasdr.com. His previous employer, Olympic Capital, however, is registered.

UMC

I've seen it stated that UMC is building a new fab in Belgium. I haven't been able to find any confirmation of this. Has anyone heard anything about this?
