Denni, I just don't want people thinking that 840 Carmel is going to be the high-volume platform just because it can do more than 820 Camino.

First of all, the cost differences between 820 and 840 are certainly greater than what you expect. Second, two processor systems are not going to replace single processor systems anytime soon. The economics of a single-processor system are still much better than a dual-processor one. Windows 95/98 won't even recognize the second processor, and most NT applications which can take advantage of dual processors aren't going to see as great of a performance improvement as you might think. And third, I don't think Intel really is planning for high volumes with Carmel because of the higher costs and added difficulties in verifying the dual-Rambus channels, building the 6-layer base, etc.

While I'm half-way relieved that Rambus is finally going to hit the PC market via 840 come this Monday, I'll still wait for 820 Camino before I leap for joy. Think of Monday as a Rambus Thanksgiving. Rambus Christmas won't be too far behind.
