Heinz, this 3:00 ramp-job thing has been bugging me and trying to figure out what is causing it. Not shorts covering - they are smart enough to cover before prices go up. Not longs initiating positions - even they are smart enough not to pay at the peak. Futures related? - doesn't seem so.

How about this - the brokers with custodial accounts (many of whom are also market makers) wait until after 3:00-3:30 to buy shares for their custodial and managed accounts. The traders on the other side of the office have also figured this out so they mark up prices accordingly. And the account managers do their buying at the marked up prices.

Any thoughts? Its the only thing I could come up with.
