Micron has talked out of both sides of its mouth before, and it kinda looks like they could be doing it again. About a year ago when they started this most recent dumping tirade, the party line in front of the trade police was, "Taiwan is dumping, they're killing prices, we're teetering on bankruptcy, oh woe", but in the quarterly or year-end report or tout-fest hype that was being made public at exactly the same time, there were nothing but blue skies, increasing market share, great shrinks, blah blah. ------------- A tip of the hat to the yahoo gang for this one. At the tout-fest, Micron will be formally announcing a new computer based on Intel's new 733 MHz P3, which itself is to be formally announced on Monday, and they're making all the right noises about Intel's new chipset, which will also be formally announced on Monday: "it's fast as hell", etc.news.cnet.com dailynews.yahoo.com So it might be a full-court press higher on Monday morning now that the market has been "saved". If you're still short, it might be just as well to just grit your teeth for a couple of hours rather than to try to get out and re-position yourself higher on Monday. I think Micron's presentation is at 10 am. -------------- BY THE WAY! The tech-wide dump Friday is being attributed to rumors that Cisco is to pre-announce poor earnings by Monday open. Never mind that it came out in the last 45 minutes on a Friday -- we have seen recently that the 3 pm "mid-day call", for example, is widely known and acted on starting at about 11 am. In fact, Cisco is in their "quiet period" before their earnings announcement Nov 9. They might have poor earnings, but they won't be making any public noise about it. -------------- MUEI 10-K came out after Friday's close.
