<<Utility.com Ranked as the Best Utility Web Site in the World; Andersen
Consulting Says Utility.com Web Site Compares Favorably With E-Commerce Sites
Such as Amazon.com and Federal Express

ALBANY, Calif., Oct 22, 1999 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Utility.com, the first
Internet utility company, was named the best-performing Web site among
144 U.S., U.K., Australian and Hong Kong utility companies in a
research study conducted by Andersen Consulting.

Andersen derived its ratings by comparing the utility sites to some of
the best e-commerce Web sites from other industries. It found the
top-performing utility Web sites to be as good or better than such
sites as Amazon.com, Qantas, CNN, Federal Express and Lonely Planet
On-Line, which are considered among the best in their industries.

Among the attributes of top-rated sites were the abilities to change
service plans, view and pay bills over the Internet, monitor energy
consumption and select the monthly billing date. However, Utility.com's
site outperformed the lowest-ranked Web sites by more than nine times
on such key functionality measures as quality and usefulness of
content, ability to conduct transactions, and range of interactivity.

"Utility.com is pleased with Andersen's findings," stated Utility.com
Chief Executive Officer Chris King. "We're honored by being called the
best utility Web site. We're ecstatic that Andersen believes the
choices, convenience and reliability we offer are on a par with the
best Web sites, period."

Andersen Consulting is a $8.3 billion global management and technology
consulting organization whose mission is to help its clients create
their future. The organization works with clients from a wide range of
industries to link their people, processes and technologies to their
strategies.

Based in Albany, Calif., Utility.com is a privately held company
founded in 1998 by e-commerce pioneer idealab!, the innovator behind
such companies as eToys, GoTo.com, Free-PC, CitySearch, Tickets.com,
and NetZero, Inc.
Utility.com plans to provide energy services to
approximately 20 states by the year 2000, reaching a market of 30
million customers who generate annual energy revenues of approximately
$200 billion. Utility.com sells energy in California, the nation's
largest energy market, and Pennsylvania.

Utility.com is also registered with the Public Utility Commission of
Nevada.
