I'm no expert with Linux but I'll tell you what I think. It's a pain in the butt to install and setup. Nothing like Windows. For the average computer user it's just too tough.

It seems very stable. I would say it's as stable as NT. My other computers see it as an NT server. You can't use most mainstream programs since they all want Windows. If the Linux programs that are available are all you need. it's an inexpensive way to go. Linux also needs much less horsepower and memory to run fast. You can pick up NT4 Workstation at most computer shows for about $99. I saw NT4 Server with 5 licenses at a show a few weeks ago for $149. NT supposedly is not too good with the new games but you can always dual boot. IMHO
