I am beginning to think that the AMDR IPO may not do as well
as we had hoped. KOOP and HLTH have shown no signs of
recent life and there have been a flood of Internet health
related IPOs. Additionally, AMDR's traffic numbers have not
been significant relative to many of the other sites. From
a KOOP press release:

biz.yahoo.com

According to PC Data, the ranking for unique users in
September is as follows:

1. drkoop.com 5,539,000
2. onhealth.com 2,262,000
3. discoveryhealth.com 1,077,000
4. webmd.com 765,000
5. thriveonline.com 753,000
6. healthyideas.com 714,000
7. intelihealth.com 675,000
8. allhealth.com 596,000
9. AOLhealth.aol 568,000
10. healthcentral.com 532,000
11. medscape.com 415,000
12. ama-assn.org 404,000
13. mediconsult.com 225,000

I do understand that AMDR only launched their service in September 1998, but the lack of exposure may hurt the offering. It is interesting that AMDR talks about "user sessions" and does not disclose the actual number of unique users. It looks like they have more than a few hypochondriacs coming back for multiple sessions. If each of the second quarter "user sessions" were from unique users, that would imply that they are getting approximately 500,000 unique users per month. The numbers in the KOOP press release would seem to indicate otherwise, though some of their users may be buried in the AOL numbers. From the S-1:

"We initiated our service in September 1998, initially accessible only to subscribers of America Online, Inc., commonly referred to as "AOL." In February 1999, we introduced our service on the Internet, at our domain address, WWW.AMERICASDOCTOR.COM, and for the quarter ended June 30, 1999 we estimate that we had approximately 1.4 million user sessions and approximately 13.3 million page views. In general, a "user session" is a period of on-line activity by a user separated by a period of at least 30 minutes of inactivity on our site by that user."

I called AMDR on Monday to inquire as to the timing of the IPO. Left a message with the Controller and I have not yet received a call back.

The last S-1 amendment was filed on September 9, 1999 and they are no longer scheduled on Hoover's IPO Central. Hmmmmm.
