Gary, opinions on that are divided...there are some indications that Dell is not 100% on the level. they had an analyst love-in a mere 10 days before their announcement, do you really believe they all of a sudden found out about the memory pricing problem 10 days later? not to mention the fact that memory spot prices had already collapsed by 50% on the day of the announcement. so i'm not saying there's necessarily more to this than meets the eye, but there very well could be. i believe to blame the Taiwan earthquake for every bit of trouble is just a convenient excuse. IBM's warning about Y2K sounds a lot more believable, and if you think it is a credible argument then it can not possibly be IBM specific. anyway, we will find out soon enough...

oh yes: one analyst warned about IBM, out of how many? and how many came out to "defend" the stock? i remember one guy on CNBC talking about the "canny buyers" that were accumulating IBM on weakness...i bet they don't feel so "canny" anymore.
