The guy at the tech store advised me to only tell Buy.Com that I had a defective chip and not that I suspected a re marked chip. Buy.Com didn't give me any problem. They are sending me a shipping label and will pay to have the processor sent back. Of course I'm out thirty dollars for the time it took for the guy to access the problem. I bought a boxed Celeron 466 from the local tech store. It comes with an Intel 3 year warranty. He would have sold me a Celeron 500 that was unboxed. By that I mean the local tech store gets loose processor's so that it they can be examined. The fan is a separate purchase. Since it is unboxed it only has a 7 day warranty. For my purposes of trading stocks over the internet and the things that go with it the 466 will do the job and was $50 les. If I had to deal with Intel direct it apparently would have taken a lot longer since they would have wanted to initiate an investigation. This would have been a violation of federal laws. I also didn't mention in the last post that the ram which I purchased from "Accubyte" aroused the tech guys suspicions since the lettering on the black squares was raised. He said that it should be marked with a laser which does not create raised letter. So with that in mind the ram went back. Don't know if it was a poor grade of ram but by this time I wasn't taking any chances. : )
