First of all, Lizzie, I think the "elite", corporate or otherwise are almost always self-annointed. Who but themselves refer to them as "elite". Number two; people with real power tend toward conservatism. If you wish to denigrate conservatism by painting it as "far right" that's your prerogative. Doesn't make it true. In spite of what your set professes, I believe you are in for a rude shock if you think the majority in your area is agnostic, if not atheist. The largest single group in California is Hispanic and they are not members of the Godless crowd. You say, "But we have more money than the bible belt, therefore liberal, Godless California matters much more than the sheer numbers dictate on almost every social issue." That is about the most arrogant, idiotic public statement since, "Let them eat cake."

You're absolutely right, the Republican party thinks the religious right are an embarrassment, like poorly reared country cousins without shoes, who don't know how to behave at a dinner party. But, their money is good, and their votes are good, so we pretend like we can stand them, and gag and laugh when their backs are turned. I mean, can you honestly imagine not laughing behind your hand at JLA or Sidney or Neo or Michael M. or Michael C. at a respectable dinner party or fund-raising event? LOL! These guys are losers with a capital L! Those in the know would be making a dumb face behind their backs and the sign of an L on their foreheads!
