Having seen hedge apples, I would think it would be a waste of time to research them as it is my understanding
via my grandfather that hedge apples are poisonous.


Just curious. I just moved to the midwest and this was the first time I ever saw this green monstrosity. They were definitely hedge apples. There are also a lot of walnuts in the neighborhood. One can't mistake one for the other because of the difference in size. I noticed the website given in the first response said hedge apple trees, also called Osage Orange make good fence posts and archery bows. They aren't completely useless.
